FDW Project – IWRM of the Mutamba Basin – 2017

Drinking water in the province of Inhambane is coming from groundwater abstraction in the dunes. The availability in the province of Inhambane is threatened, because of saline intrusion, pollution and over abstraction. In this project, WE consult cooperated with ARA-Sul, Kukula, Mozambique Organicos, Wetterskip and Dunea to develop local capacity for groundwater management. The aim was to create and apply an Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) approach for the Mutamba Basins. This involves amongst others creating water security by providing sustainable access to drinking and irrigation water and improve resilience to climate change.
